The "Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women" (CEDAW), adopted in 1979 by the UN General Assembly, is often described as the international bill of rights for women. Germany ratified the human rights convention in 1985. On a regular basis and under coordination of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth the Federal Government submits national country reports on the matter of gender equality and the measures Germany has taken to comply with the treaty obligations. Germany’s latest report, submitted in 2015, is the combined seventh and eighth CEDAW-report which covers the time period between January 2007 until December 2014. Germany presented this report during the 66th CEDAW session in Geneva in February 2017. Based on the 57 concluding observations and recommendations of the CEDAW Committee to the state party following the hearing in Geneva, the next country report will be due in 2021. Germany’s report and all other related CEDAW-documents of the 66th CEDAW-session can be downloaded from the following OHCHR Website.
